Q&A with UK GL Awards Platinum Salon winner James Henderson

Tel: 0115 941 5117
Having worked with extensions since the late 80s, James Henderson, co-owner of M Hair in Nottingham is a favorite with celebrities.
But far from letting success go to his head, James is more concerned with his charitable work, encouraging clients to donate their used extensions to The Little Princess Trust, to provide wigs for children with cancer. It will come as no surprise then that James was crowned Platinum Salon winner at the UK GL Awards 2018/19. Here we quiz him on his career and big win…
-
Why did you decide to train with Great Lengths?
I’ve been working with hair extensions now for over 25 years and have used most systems in this time. As a hairdresser you never stop wanting to learn, and I had heard good things about the quality of the Great Lengths extension application system. I also wanted to learn more about the cold fusion method which I now use in my salon.

What advice would you give to somebody beginning their hairdressing career?
My advice to someone starting out would be to set your goals high and work hard. Success won’t happen overnight, but if you are consistent, treat people with respect and most importantly enjoy what you are doing, you will get there.
-
Who are your favourite industry artists and why?
My favourite industry artist at the moment would be Angelo Seminara. I love his latest work with Great Lengths and his creativity is inspirational. Anthony Mascolo is also someone that I have followed from the start of my career, he has exceptional hairdressing and photographic skills.
-
What has been your favourite transformation to date?
My favourite transformations are always the dramatic ones. I enjoy the challenge of using extensions on very short styles and transforming them to long hair. It really tests your expertise at being able to blend and create a natural style.
-
Can you tell us about any upcoming projects/exciting opportunities?
I felt really honoured to win the Platinum Salon Award and it was great recognition for the whole team. I never stop thinking and planning what’s next and I thrive on staying ahead of my game. Success is nice but my goal is to use my success to help promote awareness of my ongoing work with The Little Princess Trust. I will also be launching a revolutionary concept for clients that will be revealed on a new website early next year so watch this space.
Congratulations James
